I seem to get stuck on stuff. The fascination with rows of stitches, though, is almost coming to an end for a while. This one, a coin purse, was done on the embroidery machine. I designed it in Bernina V6 software, then stitched it out on my Pfaff Creative Vision. The advantage of doing this with an embroidery machine is that the stitches are more perfect. The downside is that you don't have the excitement of seeing if the chosen designs are going to match up in the corners. Like I said, I think I need to move on from this. The good news is that this is a stitched-today little project. I am feeling better, the sewing room is a bit back to normal, and Carl is upright, too. My parents' estate sale seemed to go well. Everything is pretty much gone. It was a sad couple of days, but I think we all feel some relief that it is over. It is a new week, the big snowstorm might miss us, and building goes on at the cabin. The estate sale factor is pretty heavy and sad, but it lightens my heart a little to hear that you say pretty much everything is sold. This is an interesting moment to reflect on how much emotion and memories are related and attached to physical objects.... its kind of cool to think that now all of those cool items that are full of the great energy of Grandma, Grandpa, and our family are now out there being used in thousands of other people's lives.

Thanks, one of my favorite blog-readers! Remember how great it is to find something wonderful at a good price at an estate/garage sale? Well, that is certainly a comfort in thinking about how happy the buyers are to find such great stuff! One household's hsppy things are now spread all over everywhere! And, to make it even more fun....that stuff will eventually be in someone else's sale, and go to another happy home. On and on...
ReplyDeleteI know it was hard for us when we went to move our parents last May, and saw just how much they had and decided we needed to do a garage sale the next day before the moving van came to take everything that we knew wouldn't fit into their new place. It was sad to see everything go for such low prices,but we didn't have much of a choice. What didn't sell, we gave some away to a couple of places,and an antique dealer took some items to sell. After we moved them, there still was a lot that didn't fit, so had to do another garage sale at that end. Depending on what we decide to do in the future (not so far away?) my dad may go into a nursing home(VA) and mom may need to move into a smaller apartment which will mean another move and sale. I don't think they really miss too many things that didn't move with them. A lifetime of accumulation, and sold in a matter of days. They still have the best of their items, what will happen to them? All that to say I understand how hard it is to help our parents do what needs to be done...and it did make me think about all that I have and I have started letting go of some of what I have that I don't use.
